One of the more common 'unusual' sites in Manhattan is film crews and mobile dressing rooms. It might be the reason people in Manhattan, on the whole, are so blase about famous people, because they are everywhere all the time.

Barbers Pole.

A Barbers Pole at 9th and 47th. The red spirals around the pole represent blood, in medieval times barbers would also preform minor 'surgery' and dentistry. People would often hold a stick to allow the blood to pour into a bowl when the barber preformed blood letting.
